The Company was founded by Serge Kampf in 1967 as an enterprise management and data processing company. The Company was inaugurated as the Sociйtй pour la Gestion des Enterprises et le Traitement de l’Information (Sogeti).
In 1973 Sogeti acquired a majority stake in its major European IT services competitor, CAP.
In 1974 Sogeti acquired Gemini Computers Systems, a US company based in New York.
In 1975, following the two major acquisitions of CAP and Gemini Computer Systems, Sogeti renamed itself as CAP Gemini Sogeti.
In 1981, The Company launched US operations following the acquisition of Milwaukee-based DASD Corporation, specializing in data conversion and employing 500 people in 20 branches throughout the US.
In 1986,The Company Sogeti acquired the consulting division of US-based CGA Computer to create Cap Gemini America.
In 1991, The Company Consulting was formed through the integration of two management consulting firms (United Research and The MAC group).
In 1996, the name was simplified to Cap Gemini with a new group logo. All operating companies worldwide were re-branded to operate as Cap Gemini.
In 2000, The Company acquired Ernst & Young Consulting. It simultaneously integrated Gemini Consulting to form Cap Gemini Ernst & Young.
In 2002, The Company re-launched its Sogeti brand, creating a new legal entity bearing the original name of The Company, headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. The new Company is focused on delivering IT services to a more limited range of markets.
In 2003, the firm acquired Transiciel and merged the two practices into Sogeti-Transiciel (later consolidated within Sogeti in 2006).
In April 2004, The Group reverted to Capgemini (its current name).
In the summer of 2005, due to heavy financial losses, The Company sold its North American healthcare consulting practice, including both payer and provider practices, to Accenture but retains its life sciences practice.
In September 2006, The Company acquired a 51% shareholding in Unilever India Shared Services Limited (Indigo), a provider of financial shared services and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance services to the global Unilever Group. Indigo has operating centres in Bangalore and Chennai and employs approximately 600 staff. [1] In October 2006,The Company agreed to acquire Kanbay International for US$1.2 billion in cash ($29 per share). The acquisition will increase Capgemini’s India staff to 12,000 employees. [2].The acquisition was completed on February 8, 2007.
In October 2006, The Company was given the contract by the British government to design ContactPoint, a database holding information of all children under 18 in England and Wales.[1][2] On February 8, 2007, The Company announced the acquisition of Software Architects, a US-based consulting company, to expand its US business.

Historique:
1er octobre 1967 : Crйation а Grenoble de l’entreprise Sogeti par Serge Kampf, ancien directeur rйgional de Bull.
Sogeti compte alors 5 employйs tous venus de chez Bull et propose dans la rйgion Rhфne-Alpes de l’assistance technique pour le dйmarrage des ordinateurs et la mise en oeuvre de programmes de gestion. En utilisant en prioritй l’approche commerciale plutфt que technique, il se diffйrencie de ses concurrents qui dйnigreront les premiиres annйes Sogeti pour son manque de compйtences techniques.
Fin 1967-1968 : Quelques semaines а peine aprиs la crйation de Sogeti, tensions grandissantes entre les 13 petits-actionnaires. La plupart des actionnaires fondateurs quitteront Le Groupe en 1968 (dont Pierre Pasquier, fondateur de Sopra). Serge Kampf rйcupиre prиs de 84% du capital
1970 : Crйation de Hermиs Informatique, filiale d’outsourcing d’infrastructures commune а Sogeti et Cofradel. Cette mкme annйe, la sociйtй lyonnaise des dйpots, les Docks Lyonnais et le groupe Le Dauphinй Libйrй rentre au capital d’Hermиs Informatique
1970 : Acquisition de la Solame (Sociйtй lyonnaise d’applications mйcanographique), sociйtй d’informatique spйcialisй dans le traitement а faзon (externalisation de la comptabilitй…)
1971 : Solame, Hermиs Informatique et la sociйtй Infor, fusionne pour donner naissance а la sociйtй Eurinfor, spйcialisйe dans l’externalisation des services informatiques (outsourcing). Eurinfor devient une entreprise 2 fois plus grosse que Sogeti qui est un des principal actionnaire.
1973 : La dйlйgation а l’Informatique (structure de l’йtat chargйe de favoriser le dйveloppement du secteur de l’informatique), pousse la filiale informatique du CEA, le Cisi (Compagnie internationale des services informatiques) prend une participation de 34% dans Sogeti et Eurinfor, afin de constituer un leader important franзais dans les services informatiques. Ce rapprochement sera difficile, et Serge Kampf qui veut garder son indйpendance et la majoritй du capital, s’engage en contrepartie а cйder а terme sa participation dans Eurinfor au Cisi.
1971 : Crйation de la filiale Sogeti-Formation
Mars 1973 : En toute discrйtion, Serge Kampf rachиte а titre personnel (et non pas via Sogeti), la participation de 15% de la banque La Henin (groupe Suez) dans l’un de ses principal concurrent le groupe CAP (Centre d’analyse et de programmation), fondй en 1962. L’arrivйe de Serge Kamp dans le capital, provoque de graves tensions au sein du CAP, aggravant les conflits entre les actionnaires, et qui avait pousser la banque la Henin а vendre sa participation.
Juillet 1973 : Excйdй par les tensions au CAP, l’ancien prйsident de celui-ci, Bertrand Asscher vend sa participation de 34% dans le CAP а Sogeti. Sogeti et Serge Kampf dйtiennent alors seulement 49% du capital du CAP, mais sont le premier actionnaire de la SSII.
Mars 1974 : Fatiguй des conflits au sein du CAP, les 2 autres actionnaires cиdent leur part а Sogeti.
5 Juin 1974 : CAP et Sogeti fusionne pour donner Cap Sogeti.
Septembre 1974 : Acquisition de Gemini Computer Systems, une SSII prйsente en Europe mais aux capitaux amйricains
