GB-Inno-BM G.I.B. (GIB) is a privately held company which is active in four sectors: supermarkets and hypermarkets; do-it-yourself (DIY) home improvement and auto care stores; self-service and fast-food restaurants; and specialty retailing. The company was created in 1974 through the merger of GB Enterprises with Inno-BM. It has its registered principal place of business in Tervurenlaan 72, Brussels, Belgium.
GIB is Belgium’s top retailer. The GIB Group was created by mergers and acquisition involving a number of companies, of which the largest were Maxi GB and Super GB. GIB’s aim are to begin the new century with a group of companies which all enjoy a better positioning in their markets; to build a strong, efficient retail group, to create value for its customers, franchise partners, suppliers and shareholders; and to develop a motivational working environment rich in future prospects for its employees.
GIB Group’s supermarkets and hypermarkets operate under such diverse names as GB, with stores trading under the name Maxi GB, Super GB, and as GB Express; Bigg’s Continent, with two stores: Unic, Nopri; and Globi in Poland. Within Belgium, Brico and Briko Depot, with 100 outlets, are the undisputed leader in the country’s DIY market. In addition, Auto 5 sells car accessories through its more than 40 outlets. DIY stores also are operated in France (37 Obi stores) and Portugal and Spain (19 Aki stores). The Quick fast-food chain includes more than 100 units in Belgium, Luxembourg, and The Netherlands, and with more than 250 located in France. In addition, GIB Group operates the 63-unit Lunch Garden self-service restaurant chain and seven Crock’in sandwich bars. The specialty sector of GIB Group includes department stores and some smaller retail chains. Inno, Belgium’s only modern department store chain operates 15 stores in major urban centers and shopping centers. GIB Group also operates 23 Disport sporting goods stores in Belgium and the Netherlands and 26 Club book and stationery shops in Belgium.
GIB is part of Ackermans en van Haaren NV/SA and Compagnie National a Portefeuille. Ackermans en van Haaren NV/SA is a service group which is involved in four sectors: dredging and environmental services, human resources services, financial services and private equity. Compagnie National a Portefeuille is a family-owned company that operates as an interface with major institutional investors; it also pursues an investment activity through a group which has large or controlling holdings in international companies.
