Lumera Corporation, bases in Bothwell, Washington, USA, was established in 2000 to develop proprietary polymer materials and products based on these materials. Lumera is currently developing products for two primary markets: bioscience and electro-optics. Products for wireless networking and biochip applications became available for customer evaluation in early 2004; therefore, Lumera was considered to have exited the development stage in 2004. To date, substantially all of Lumera’s revenues have come from contracts to develop custom-made electro-optic materials and devices for government agencies. As Lumera transition to a product-based company, it expects to record both revenue and expense from product sales, and to incur increased costs for sales and marketing and to increase general and administrative expense. Accordingly, the financial condition and results of operations reflected in Lumera’s historical financial statements are not expected to be indicative of its future financial condition and results of operations.
In 2004, Lumera also began the development of its label-free, high throughput detection system and related biochip products aimed primarily at the growing proteomics marketplace. Lumera also continued the development of its polymer modulators, and pending demand for higher bandwidth and speeds from optical communications equipment suppliers. Lumera has been developing other applications for its modulators such as millimeter wave detection and communication systems. Lumera currently has products being evaluated by customers and potential customers in each of its product areas. During March 2006, Lumera changed the organizational structure of its business to focus on its two primary markets, creating two distinct business segments: bioscience and electro-optics.

Plexera is focused on providing the life sciences market with tools, content, and methods that simplify and accelerate proteomic discovery for improved diagnostics and therapeutics. Kx Array Technology developed by Plexera combines label free, real-time detection methods based on surface plasmon resonance with microarray based assay formats. The Kx Array System provides a high throughput solution for detecting and quantifying the binding of thousands of proteins in a single assay. The Plexera KX Array System, based on the Kx array technology and formerly known as the ProteomicProcessor System, consists of the Plexera KX Array Analyzer , data analysis software, supporting accessory equipment and reagents, and a family of Plexera KX Array Sensor Chips. Plexera KX Array Sensor Chips provide specialized surface chemistries for immobilizing customer content, including its ExpressTag technology that enables properly oriented capture of specifically engineered proteins for analysis.
The Company is developing a high throughput surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensor designed to enable discovery and characterization of proteins. In addition, the system is being designed to characterize possible drug candidates that target protein molecules and to facilitate biomarker discovery and protein pathway elucidation.
Lumera is developing a new generation of Electro-optic (EO) modulators and other devices for optical networks and systems based on its polymer materials. The applications for these advanced materials include electro-optic components such as modulators and ring oscillators, polymer electronics, such as high performance diodes and transistors, and optical interconnects for high speed (greater than 20 billion cycles per second) inter and intra semiconductor chip communication. It has designed and manufactured polymer-based EO modulators that operate at data rates up to 100 gigabits per second.
Lumera’s 40 gigabits per second and 100 gigabits per second parts address non-return-to-zero (NRZ), return-to-zero (RZ) and duo-binary modulation formats.
The Company competes with GE Healthcare, Biorad and Forte Biosystems.
