Description and history
The company manufactures high technology products as trucks, buses, passenger cars, military and commercial airplanes, satellites, missiles, industrial automation, flow control and heating.
On January 1, 1990, as part of the agreement between Saab-Scania and General Motors, a new company, Saab Automobile AB, was formed for the Saab car operation with a stockholders’ risk-bearing equity of SEK 5,700m.
On March 15,1991, General Motors acquired 50% of the shares in the company for US$600m. The partners have later each provided additional capital of US$ 100m, after which the company’s total risk-bearing equity amounted to SEK 6,900m. During the year Saab-Scania and General Motors formed a new company in automotive electronics, Mecel AB. Saab-Scania Combitech holds 60% of the shares in this company and GM’s wholly-owned subsidiary Delco Electronics 40%.
At a meeting of the Saab-Scania Board on February 22,1995, a decision was made to divide the group into two companies : Saab AB and Scania AB, which are proposed to be wholly owned subsidiaries of Investor. Saab-Scania’s 50% interest in Saab Automobile AB is intended to be transferred to investors.
